A moraine is everything a glacier picked up along the way, carried for years, and left behind when it retreated. That is roughly the idea: somewhere to put whatever you noticed today, without deciding what it is for, that turns out to be more than a notes app when you go looking for something years later.
You throw things in — a note, a journal entry, a link, a photo, a voice memo, a stray idea. Moraine gives each one a title, a short summary and tags, and files it so you can find it again. All of that happens on your device, using Apple Intelligence. Nothing is uploaded to be read by anyone.
The part that makes it worth keeping is the search. As well as matching words, Moraine understands what an entry is about — so "the argument about moving house" finds the entry where you never used any of those words.
A map of where you captured things. A calendar that runs both ways — what you wrote on a day, beside what was in your diary. A photo wall. Tags. Stats. And entries that resurface on their own when they are relevant to what you are writing now.
And a real export: a folder of plain JSON with your photos and recordings beside it as ordinary files, and a page that shows the whole library in any browser with Moraine deleted. Moraine imports a Day One export directly — entries, dates, tags, places, weather, favourites and photos, one journal at a time. It reads Apple's Journal export too: dates, titles, writing, places and photos, each photo keeping the day it was taken. Import is free and untimed. Nothing is silently dropped: if something can't come across, the result says so and counts it.
On your devices, and in your own iCloud account — the private database only you can read. There is no Moraine account, no server of ours holding your entries, and no analytics.
